Well, nobody congratulated him but the Schwami's third place prediction is looking more and more prescient.
The Force girls are now undefeated in 2012 having beaten BUnited 99 in a 2-0 contest back at Ultimate Soccer. The road to third place -- and, of course, the Olympics -- certainly seems a bit smoother now!
Perhaps the girls, and not just the author, deserve some congratulations. We should even give a shout out to substitute coach Bill who had the good sense to bring a few extra subs to tonite's leg weary squad. Sidney certainly stood out, providing some added speed and energy up front. Indeed, her run led to a nice rolling pass to "Make something Happen!" Christina for the Force's first goal. Then, Ellie, always the good sister, sent a deep ball that Christina ran down inside the "18" (love, love soccer talk! -- can only imagine the convention in KC!). Once inside the box Christina deftly avoided contact and "deked" (ok, can't sustain soccer talk for two sentences) the United keeper to the left before cutting back and tucking the ball in the corner.
2-0 Force! Two goals! In a half!
The differential could have been more striking. Zoe, getting a few odd moments at forward, had a couple of breakaways. Stasia beautifully set up Christina late in the game for the hat trick but the United keeper stretched out for a very good save.
Kate was never tested. But the Force managed to use the backpass -- something that has been more than an Achilles' heel [like an Achilles' leg] -- very effectively. Kate even had a moment to stop the ball, look up, make a decision, and pass. Just like on TV 32 where they show the English Premier League highlights (nobody really has 90+ minutes to watch a soccer game).
Emmi and Annabelle kept everything tight and safe inside against a bigger -- much bigger -- side.
The Force fell into their old habit of playing to the speed of the side opposite, rather than playing in full geer. But, fortunately, Annabelle is developing the knack for making the difficult defensive play look ordinary.
Can't wait for Cookie to get home and start preparing for Lobos Red next week!!!
