Tiger wife

Finally got around to buying Amy Chua's *Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother* for my wife Pauline. The book caused quite a stir several months ago when Chua's memoir of her Chinese/American demanding parenting style hit the presses. Chua describes her own willingness to push her children -- mainly in academics and music (violin and piano! big in our house), not soccer -- in ways that made many Americans cringe with horror.

The book is lol funny. Chua is more than self-aware and verges on self-parody at points as she drives and berates her kids to do the best they can in everything. Plus she is an academic (Yale Law Prof) from academic parents who is busy writing things she isn't supposed to be writing. I understand -- although Chua would no doubt cringe at my weak, wimpy American male empathy.

So I was going to do a post about Tiger Moms in soccer.

But, instead, I thought I would sketch out a different category (soccer moms getting entirely too much media attention anywho): the Tiger wife.

Don't google Tiger wife: you will get a range of pictures of Tiger's (Woods) wife Elin. Tiger's wife was probably not a Tiger Wife -- although I bet she is/will be one now. In pix you will find she is either set glamorously and provocatively in a bikini from her modeling days or in the traditional garb of the upscale wife upended by hubby (conservative suit, dark sunglasses, photographed from a distance).

But, again, we aren't talking about Elin

Here are the basic lyricshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpZ3jPMM5Ac to the Hymn of the Tiger wife:
1) Avoid giving your husband positive feedback. He should do his best because that is right.
2) Never, ever laugh at your husband's jokes -- it encourages boyish and boorish behavior.
3) Laugh at loud at any suggestion your husband might be appealing or attractive to other people.
4) Never, ever read your husband's blog -- he should be concentrating 100% on work and reading the blog only encourages frivolous behavior.
