A 7 am whistle found the mix and match Force team sleepwalking through a bit of sloppy start as they struggled to create any offensive flow in the early minutes.
Fortunately for the girls, the 18 member RSC gold '99 squad were equally as sluggish, and before long, the attacking combination of Sawyer, Kyra and Jazzy opened up what would become an offensive barrage. Taking advantage of some undisciplined defensive play, Sawyer found a wide open Kyra whose well placed strike opened up the scoring at about the 6 minute mark. The Force never looked back. With quick pace, crisp passing and nice midfield play by Rhea and Grace, their pressure deep in the RSC end was unrelenting. Some nice ball control by Jazzy gave her the chance to strike from a tough angle in the box, which slipped through the legs of the reaching RSC keeper. What seems like moments later, the girls won a corner kick and Claire corralled the active ball and found the net for a 3-0 lead. Speaking of Claire, huge thanks to ALL the girls that filled in: Hannah, Sidney, Zoe and Claire from U-12 white, Lauren and Sam from the U-13 team. They all did a great job. Need to keep the thankyou's brief because... wait for it... SCORE! A shot from Jazzy bounces off the crossbar right to a wide open Sawyer who finessed a shot into the corner of the net. A 4-0 halftime gave coach Cookie
the chance to be a bit creative with his lineup in the second half, giving a chance for the speedy Anastasia in the back and trying defensive stalwarts such as Sophia, Jill and Annabelle in midfield and forward positions. They were all equal to the task, controlling play and keeping the ball in the RSC end for long stretches of the half. There were even a few close calls for scoring chances by our defensive dynamos. But leave it to our offensive specialists to finish out the scoring. With the talented tandem from the U-13 team in the game, Kyra crossed a pass to a streaking Lauren who would not be denied. And in the closing minutes, with an assist from Claire and Annabelle, Jazzy had the finale.
See everyone next week, thanks!
